The £530,000 scheme has finished. Two pay and display spaces were added and six blue badge bays moved, but the council's car park page still says 98.

The renovation of Beverley’s Saturday Market is finished. East Riding of Yorkshire Council announced the completion on 23 September. The scheme cost £530,000 and was funded by the Department for Transport.

Two changes matter if you drive there. The council says the work added two further pay and display spaces, and that a group of six blue badge holder spaces has been rearranged so drivers can see round the adjacent corner more easily.

The rest of the work is to the pedestrian area:

  • the full height kerb has been removed, and the block paving replaced with Yorkstone slabs so the surface matches the footways around it
  • new seating, bollards, planters, bins and a noticeboard, with the existing cycle stands and wooden benches kept
  • improved electrical power for the market itself, and for its lighting through the winter
  • replacement lighting for the Market Cross, to pick out the structure after dark and at events

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This is a great scheme to improve Beverley for visitors and residents, and we thank residents and businesses for their patience during the works.”

The council’s own parking page has not caught up

Facts panel: the Saturday Market scheme cost £530,000 from the Department for Transport, added two pay and display spaces and rearranged six blue badge spaces, while the council's car park finder still lists 98 standard spaces and 10 disabled bays from an entry last modified on 30 July 2025.

If you look the car park up on the council’s own car park finder today, it still records 98 standard spaces and 10 disabled bays, short stay, charges apply. We checked the entry on 24 September and its own record shows it was last modified on 30 July 2025, more than a year before the scheme finished. So the two extra spaces the council has just announced are not yet reflected on the page a driver would actually look at.

That is a small thing, but it is the sort of small thing that sends someone round the block. The figure to work to is 98 plus two, until the council updates it.

What it means for you

  • Saturday Market is short stay and charges Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, including bank holidays. It clears for the market on Saturdays, so it is not a Saturday option at all.
  • The machine takes cash or card, and you can pay by phone through MiPermit. An East Riding Wide Daily ticket bought here works in any of the council’s long stay car parks that day.
  • If you use a blue badge, the bay layout in that group of six has changed, so do not assume the space you always use is where it was.
  • Our parking in Beverley page has the full list of town car parks, their sizes and their tariffs.
