Bridlington's £15.5m Beck Hill multi-storey opens in October with 426 bays. It lifts the town's year-round council parking by about a fifth, from 2,152 spaces.

Bridlington’s new multi-storey car park at Beck Hill will open to drivers in October. East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the £15.5m building is in its final stage of construction, and that a ribbon-cutting will come first. (East Riding of Yorkshire Council, 8 September 2026)

The car park sits between Manor Street and Hilderthorpe Road, in the middle of the town centre. It was designed for the council by the architects Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher and built by Henry Boot Construction. The exterior carries vertical twisted fins meant to read as a wave.

The council lists these features:

  • 426 parking bays
  • 31 accessible bays
  • electric vehicle charging bays
  • pedestrian access straight onto Manor Street and Hilderthorpe Road

The contract the council advertised was slightly larger. Its tender notice specified 429 spaces: 392 standard bays, 31 accessible bays and 6 electric vehicle charging points, plus 8 motorcycle spaces and 12 cycle spaces. (Find a Tender notice 020933-2024, 9 July 2024) The council has not explained the difference between the two figures.

What it adds, in the council’s own numbers

The council does not say what the town already has, so we counted it from its own car park finder. It lists 17 car parks in and around Bridlington, holding 4,600 spaces. That list runs to the edges of the town, and it includes the 500-space picnic car park at Sewerby, about two miles up the coast. (East Riding of Yorkshire Council car park finder, read 13 September 2026)

More than half of that capacity is seasonal. Two car parks account for 2,448 spaces, and both of their council pages carry the same line: “open to the public in summer only”.

  • Limekiln Lane, 1,500 spaces, open 8am to 8pm in season
  • Park & Ride, 948 spaces, open 24 hours in season

Take those two out and the council runs 2,152 spaces in Bridlington all year, across 15 car parks. Beck Hill’s 426 bays lift that to 2,578, a rise of about a fifth. It is the winter figure that matters here, because that is the number the town works with for most of the year.

The accessible bays move further. Of the 102 the council lists in Bridlington, 48 are in the summer-only Park & Ride. Fifty-four are open all year, and Beck Hill adds 31 to them.

One more number worth having: of the 17 existing car parks, exactly one is free. That is Stepney Grove, off Bempton Lane, with 39 spaces.

What it cost, and who was paid

The £15.5m is the council’s figure for the whole scheme. The construction contract itself is smaller and is on the public record. Henry Boot Construction Ltd was awarded it at £12,914,987.55, and the contract was signed on 4 March 2025. (Find a Tender notice 039855-2025, 15 July 2025)

The council had estimated £13m when it went out to tender in July 2024, so the price came in just under. The notice also set the works at 360 days. On the council’s own October opening, the job will have run about eighteen months from the day the contract was signed. The council has published no reason for that, and none of its recent statements mentions a delay.

The work included diverting the Gypsey Race, the chalk stream that runs under this part of the town. The council says that brought improvements to the watercourse and the green space connecting to Gypsey Race Park.

What it means for you

Charges are not published yet. The council says parking charges, opening hours and payment methods, including app options, will go on its website closer to the opening. Until they do, nobody outside the council knows what an hour at Beck Hill will cost. We will publish the tariff as soon as it appears.

Nothing changes before October. The existing car parks are unaffected, and the two seasonal ones will close for the winter as usual. If you drive into Bridlington in November, you are still choosing between the same 15 car parks.

If you need an accessible bay, Beck Hill is the biggest single addition the town has had. It will hold 31, against 54 currently open across the whole of Bridlington in winter.

Councillor Anne Handley, the council leader, said the October opening was “a transformative moment for Bridlington” and that the building “directly addresses historic parking challenges during busy seasons”.

The council has not named the opening date, only the month. We will update this page when it does.
