October half term in East Riding schools is 26 to 30 October 2026. Spooky Sewerby, Bridlington Spa's family shows and free-to-book library theatre, dated.

October half term for schools on the East Riding council calendar runs from Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October 2026, with pupils back on Monday 2 November. The biggest organised programme is Spooky Sewerby at Sewerby Hall near Bridlington, which runs across both weekends, and the council’s libraries have touring family theatre in six towns.

The council’s recommended half term is 26 to 30 October, published on its school term dates page. Not every school follows it. Pocklington School breaks at 3.50pm on Friday 23 October and day pupils return on Thursday 5 November, and Hymers College is off from Thursday 22 October to Tuesday 3 November. Spooky Sewerby, Sewerby Hall, Bridlington

Sewerby Hall’s half-term programme is called Spooky Sewerby. Its price list charges a half-term day ticket from 24 October to 1 November, covering the house, gardens, woodland walk and zoo, with events included unless stated otherwise.

Every day from 24 October to 1 November, 10am to 3pm, the Walled Gardens have Halloween characters to find, and the free Love Exploring app runs a Halloween dance trail and quiz. The Rusticus sessions are 45-minute outdoor walks that meet at the front of the house; Wildcats sits by the putting green, also outdoors, so dress for the weather. The hoof stock session needs no booking.

Opening hours from 28 September, per Sewerby’s opening times page: the house 11.30am to 3.30pm (last entry 3pm), the zoo 10am to 3.30pm, the gardens 9.30am to 3.30pm, and the land train to Bridlington runs until 1 November. After half term, from 2 November, the gardens become free again and the house opens weekends only.

Bridlington Spa

Two family shows fall in half term, both on the Spa’s what’s on listing:

  • Magic Mike Not So Spooky Halloween Show, Sunday 25 October, 2pm. The Spa describes it as a panto-style Halloween show with Count Chuckula, “full of messy ghostly fun”.
  • Ms Rachel: Fun For Little Ones, Live Tribute, Wednesday 28 October, 2.30pm, a tribute show aimed at pre-schoolers.

Library theatre in six towns

The council’s culture box office has two touring family shows in East Riding libraries over half term:

The Mountain Witch is a dance piece inspired by folklore. Myth Monster is “part performance, part headphone experience” about ancestors, with original music and a chance to dance. Both are booked through the same online box office that sells Bridlington Spa and Sewerby tickets, and places need booking ahead.

Burton Constable Hall, Skirlaugh

Burton Constable’s current exhibition, The Curiosity Garden, about William Constable’s 18th-century “dry garden” of pressed plants, runs until Sunday 1 November 2026, with the Hall opening at 11am. Burton Constable has not listed a Halloween programme for 2026.

Pumpkin patches and Trick or Treat Street

Butt Farm in Beverley and The Pumpkin Patch at Bewholme are open daily through half term to 31 October, and William’s Den at North Cave runs its ticketed Trick or Treat Street from 24 to 31 October (closed Monday 26).
