All ten East Riding tips open 10am to 5pm every day, no booking. Christmas hours, the resident's pass, van permits, and which sites take asbestos and gas.
Every household waste recycling site in the East Riding opens 10am to 5pm, seven days a week, and you do not need to book. What you do need is proof that you live in the East Riding, and if you drive a van, a pick-up or tow a big trailer, a tip permit. The sites close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The quick answer
- Hours: 10am to 5pm every day at all ten sites, including bank holidays except the three below. No booking.
- Christmas: closed 25 and 26 December and 1 January; close at 4pm on 24 and 31 December.
- Getting in: a car needs your free Resident’s Pass or proof of an East Riding address. A van needs a tip permit.
The ten sites
Hours and addresses are from the council’s recycling site finder, read on 25 September 2026. The council’s opening-times data gives every site the same 10am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday. The sites are run by FCC Environment on the council’s behalf.

Beverley’s Weel Road tip
The Beverley site on Weel Road was shut while Weel Bridge was out for repair. The bridge reopened to traffic on the evening of Friday 25 September, and the council said the tip would reopen at 10am on Saturday 26 September. Our Weel Bridge story has the detail. If Weel Road is not open when you arrive, the nearest alternatives are Humberfield, Driffield and Hornsea. (East Riding of Yorkshire Council, 26 September 2026)
Christmas and New Year opening
Every site entry carries the same line: the sites are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, but open all other holiday periods, and close at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. For 2026 that means:
| Date | Hours |
|---|---|
| Thursday 24 December | 10am to 4pm |
| Friday 25 December | Closed |
| Saturday 26 December | Closed |
| Sunday 27 December to Wednesday 30 December | 10am to 5pm |
| Thursday 31 December | 10am to 4pm |
| Friday 1 January 2027 | Closed |
The council warns that the sites “can be extremely busy over the Christmas, New Year and bank holiday periods”. Real Christmas trees can go to any site, or next to your brown bin in January; see our Christmas bin collections page.
What you need to get in
In a car, or with a trailer 6ft by 4ft or smaller: show your Resident’s Pass on the dashboard or windscreen. The 2026/27 pass came with paper council tax bills in March 2026 and is valid until 31 March 2027. No pass? Bring one of these, on paper or on your phone:
- a driving licence with your East Riding address
- a utility bill or bank statement from the last three months
- a council tax bill from the last twelve months
You can ask for a replacement pass at any site if you show one of those. The council is blunt: “You will be refused entry to the site if you do not have valid proof.”
In a van, a two-door pick-up, a sign-written vehicle or with a trailer bigger than 6ft by 4ft: you need a tip permit.
- Permits are virtual now, linked to your registered vehicle. You get six when you first apply, and can have no more than six in any 12 months.
- You can register up to two vehicles per address.
- Garden waste only does not use up a permit; a mix of garden and household waste does.
- Hire vans cannot have permits. You can visit three times in 12 months, household waste only, and must show the hire agreement to an attendant before unloading.
- Not allowed at all: flat-beds, tippers, drop-sided vans, agricultural vehicles and anything over 3.5 tonnes.

Which sites take what
Most items are accepted everywhere, including mattresses, fridges and freezers, TVs, soil and rubble, plasterboard, wood, tyres (up to five), vapes and paint tins (see the attendant). A few things are only taken at some sites, according to each site’s facility list:
| Item | Sites that take it |
|---|---|
| Asbestos (double wrapped, edges sealed) | Airmyn, Carnaby, Humberfield, Preston |
| Gas bottles and cylinders | Airmyn, Carnaby, Driffield, Humberfield, Preston |
| Carpets | Airmyn, Pocklington |
Carnaby’s asbestos bank is not available on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Chemicals and engine oil are limited to five litres.
Two more rules: sort your waste before you arrive, or you will be sent to the on-site sorting area, and do not bring a wheelie bin; the council does not allow them on site. Business waste is not allowed at any site.
Reuse instead
Working fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, cookers, ovens and microwaves can go in the reuse container at any site. Dove House Hospice tests and resells them. There is also a Dove House reuse shop next to the Humberfield site for bikes and furniture.

Still to be confirmed
Whether the 2026 Christmas hours follow last year’s pattern exactly. The site pages already carry the closures and 4pm finishes above; the council’s Christmas 2026 service page will confirm them in November or December.
